It started with a plane ticket to Jordan and a curiosity that wouldn't stay still.
Our founder arrived in Amman as a student, there to study, not to fall in love with a country next door. But that's exactly what happened. On a break between semesters, he crossed into Palestine, expecting a short visit. He didn't expect to be undone by it — by the warmth of strangers who insisted on feeding him before they'd even learned his name, by the old stone streets of Jerusalem, by a culture so generous with its history and its hospitality that it seemed to hand both over freely to anyone willing to listen. He left Jordan a few months later with a degree in progress and something else entirely: a set of friendships and a feeling that he needed to do something with what he'd witnessed.
One friend in particular — someone he'd met in a small workshop in the Old City, watching leather being cut and stitched by hand the way it had been for generations — changed the way he thought about "helping."
His friend put it simply: communities are strengthened when people have the opportunity to earn a living through the work they know and love. When a craftsman can sell the sandals he has spent years learning to make, he is not simply earning an income. He is keeping his trade alive, supporting his family, and creating the possibility for the next generation to inherit that craft.
That is the kind of support we believe in.

That plan became ilnailko. In Levantine Arabic, ilna means "for us," and ilko means "for you." The sandals are ilna — for us, the ones who wear them every day, who break them in on sidewalks and beaches and everywhere in between. The impact is ilko — for Palestine, for the hands that made them, for the cause behind every purchase. Together, the name captures the whole idea in two words: what you get is yours, and what it does belongs to something bigger. Everyday wear, meaningful support — worn as one.
